In continuation of its career guidance workshop,
Promasidor Nigeria Limited, makers of Cowbell Milk, Loya Milk, Onga and other
dairy products, held the third edition of its career guidance workshop for
secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Known as “PromasidorHarness Your Dream”, it is the
company’s corporate social responsibility initiative to enhance students’
knowledge in making informed decisions on the right choice of career.
The Abuja edition which was held on Wednesday, May
9, 2018, at Junior Secondary School, Jabi, was organised for the Junior
Secondary School (JSS) 3 students of the host school, and their colleagues from
Junior Secondary School, Tudun-Wada and Junior Secondary School, Wuse, Zone 1.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Universal Basic
Education Board (UBEB), Abuja, Dr.Kabiru Ibrahim Matazu commended Promasidor
for assisting the UBEB to achieve its set objectives through Harness Your Dream.
According to him, Promasidor’s career guidance
initiative is in line with UBEB’s order that “Education For All is the
Responsibility for All.”
Represented by Alhaji Usman Yahaya, Board Member 1 of UBEB, Abuja, the Board Chairman acknowledged that guidance is the key that unlocks the brain of a student in achieving good results while making the right career choice.
He said that through “Promasidor’s Harness Your Dream,” students would be able to know
the steps and processes to take to attain their career objectives which would
place them in leadership and entrepreneurial positions in future.
On her part, the Principal of Jabi Junior Secondary
School, Mrs. Aisha Bello also applauded Promasidor’s resolve to enhance
students’ perception in choosing the right profession, and said that the
workshop is very crucial to students at the JSS3 level.
“Normally as a school, we organise career talk for
our students, but this surpasses what we do because professionals in different
fields were brought to interact with the students. This is really inspiring and
would help the students to become relevant to themselves and the nation in
future,” she affirmed.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Promasidor
Nigeria Limited, Mr. Anders Einarsson had explained that Promasidor’s Harness Your Dream was initiated to guide students to
choose careers that match their talents, skills and aspirations.
According to Einarsson, who was represented by the Head,
Legal and Public Relations,Mr. Andrew Enahoro, the CSR strategy of the company
focuses on Education, Health, Empowerment and Sports.
He explained that students at the JSS3 level were the
main target because they would be faced with the task of choosing relevant subjects
that would determine their future careers in the next academic session.
According to him, the success of past editions held
in Lagos and Abeokuta, has prompted Promasidor to extend the laudable
initiative to schools in Abuja and other parts of the country since the company
serves the nutritional needs of people across the country.
He said youth unemployment is part of the problem experienced
in the country and that they would have been more creative with less dependence
for means of livelihood if some of them had been properly guided in making
right career choices.
Promasidor
Harness Your Dream was launched last November at Oregun Junior High
School, Ikeja, Lagos with the second edition in Abeokuta in March, this year.
Its primary
objective of “Promasidor Harness Your Dreams” is to help public school students
understand varieties of career options and guide them along their career paths
with Promasidor staff members serving as resource persons.
